Additional Info

The firm of Luxan & Murfitt, PLLP, is a professional limited liability partnership. It is a successor to Luxan & Scribner (1955-62) and has operated under its present name since 1962, when H. J. Luxan (1918-1984) and Walter S. Murfitt (1930-2002) formed the present firm.

The attorneys at Luxan & Murfitt span several generations, and are dedicated to serving our clients and serving the local and statewide community. Dale Reagor, of counsel, joined the firm in 1978 after graduation from law school and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Candace Payne, the firm's senior partner, joined the firm in 1995, after three years with the Doney Law Firm. Gregory Gould was with the firm from 1998 to 2004, and rejoined the firm in 2010, after serving as in-house counsel for the state's largest health insurer. Mark Lancaster joined the firm in 2010 after working in a litigation firm in Great Falls. Kelton Olney joined Luxan & Murfitt, PLLP, in June 2012 after working in private practice and serving as in-house counsel for a local bank.

The experienced attorneys at Luxan & Murfitt place a high premium on effective legal representation. While the firm has a strong track record of winning cases at both the appellate and trial level, we avoid costly litigation bringing whenever possible. Whether bringing or defending a lawsuit, restructuring a business organization, or representing a health care provider in a reimbursement dispute, we make every effort to resolve our clients' legal matters in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Our firm provides the capable, competent, and thorough legal services each client would expect from a reputable, business-oriented law firm. Our attorneys give each matter a high degree of personal attention. We understand that each client's affairs are pressing and we work hard to respond to client needs by promptly returning phone calls and providing ready access to your attorney.

In our experience, close collaboration between the attorney and the client is essential to the successful resolution of legal matters. We believe it is important for the client to understand the key issues involved in the case, as well as the pros and cons of pursuing various legal strategies. We work with our clients to create the effective working relationships that are critical to handling their legal matters.

Our attorneys practice statewide, routinely appearing in all state and federal trial courts including the Montana Water Court, the Montana Supreme Court, and the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. A number of our attorneys also have extensive experience appearing before the legislature as lobbyists, and before various state and federal administrative agencies as legal counsel.
