The firm was founded in 1947 by Hon. Richard T. Rives, who was joined by John C. Godbold, as a general civil trial and business firm. Three of its senior partners have become members of the federal judiciary and one is currently a Judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit of Alabama (Montgomery) (Hon. Richard T. Rives, former Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; Hon. John C. Godbold, former Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits; and Hon. Truman M. Hobbs, former Chief Judge of the U.S. Middle District of Alabama), Truman M. Hobb, Jr. as Circuit Judge.
The firm has participated in over 400 published cases during the past 60 years and practices regionally in all areas of civil trial and business law.
